{"id":600,"date":"2019-04-15T05:00:14","date_gmt":"2019-04-15T10:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/crosslabyrinth.com\/JourneyNotes\/?p=600"},"modified":"2020-04-02T10:08:43","modified_gmt":"2020-04-02T15:08:43","slug":"path-of-hunger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/crosslabyrinth.com\/JourneyNotes\/?p=600","title":{"rendered":"Path of Hunger"},"content":{"rendered":"\t<audio id=\"wp_mep_1\" src=\"http:\/\/crosslabyrinth.com\/m4a\/Journey%20Notes%2041%20Path%20of%20Hunger%20Accomp.m4a\"     controls=\"controls\" preload=\"none\"  >\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t<\/audio>\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\njQuery(document).ready(function($) {\r\n\t$('#wp_mep_1').mediaelementplayer({\r\n\t\tm:1\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t,features: ['playpause','current','progress','duration','volume','tracks','fullscreen']\r\n\t\t,audioWidth:,audioHeight:\r\n\t});\r\n});\r\n<\/script>\r\n\n<p>The body has basic needs.\u00a0 Food is one of them.\u00a0 There are signs that let us know when we are hungry, from mild pangs to gnawing pain.\u00a0 Lack of food can lead to shaking, weakness, and fainting.\u00a0 If not addressed, it will lead to death.<\/p>\n<p>God knows our needs.\u00a0 He knows how to meet them, too.\u00a0 Jesus was aware of this.\u00a0 When Satan tempted Jesus to turn stones to bread, Satan was trying to use hunger to break Jesus&#8217; devotion to God.\u00a0 But our Lord could not be shaken and responded by quoting a rather obscure Old Testament scripture.\u00a0 The passage would probably still be obscure today if Jesus&#8217; response had not been recorded in the Gospels.\u00a0 &#8220;Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>That verse from Deuteronomy was talking about God providing manna to the children of Israel.\u00a0 The Israelites had never asked for manna.\u00a0 They did not even know what it was.\u00a0 In fact, the word &#8220;manna&#8221; sounds like Hebrew for the question, &#8220;What is it?&#8221;\u00a0 Nevertheless, God chose to send manna, and manna was sufficient to sustain the Israelites in the wilderness.\u00a0 When Jesus quoted the passage, He was confessing that, just as God knew and met the needs of the Israelites, God knew His needs and would provide for Him.<\/p>\n<p>The 15th century Latin hymn <em>O Love, How Deep<\/em> traces the life of Christ, including the hardships that He suffered for us.\u00a0 Ponder these words from the second stanza.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">For us baptized, for us he bore<br \/>\nhis holy fast and hungered sore,<br \/>\nfor us temptation sharp he knew;<br \/>\nfor us the tempter overthrew.<\/p>\n<p>What is our hunger on our pilgrim journey, and how will it be met? Do we think that we can meet our own needs, or do we yearn for God&#8217;s provision? Christ fasted in preparation to give us hope and salvation.
