{"id":496,"date":"2019-04-06T05:00:26","date_gmt":"2019-04-06T10:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/crosslabyrinth.com\/JourneyNotes\/?p=496"},"modified":"2020-04-02T10:08:44","modified_gmt":"2020-04-02T15:08:44","slug":"the-path-foretold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/crosslabyrinth.com\/JourneyNotes\/?p=496","title":{"rendered":"The Path Foretold"},"content":{"rendered":"\t<audio id=\"wp_mep_1\" src=\"http:\/\/crosslabyrinth.com\/m4a\/Journey%20Notes%2032%20The%20Path%20Foretold%20Accomp.m4a\"     controls=\"controls\" preload=\"none\"  >\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t<\/audio>\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\njQuery(document).ready(function($) {\r\n\t$('#wp_mep_1').mediaelementplayer({\r\n\t\tm:1\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t,features: ['playpause','current','progress','duration','volume','tracks','fullscreen']\r\n\t\t,audioWidth:,audioHeight:\r\n\t});\r\n});\r\n<\/script>\r\n\n<p>Knowing the future brings hope to some people.\u00a0 The same knowledge brings fear to others.\u00a0 When the nation of Israel had been conquered and the people were living in captivity, the prophet Isaiah delivered a message.\u00a0 A child would be born.\u00a0 He would be a leader.\u00a0 He would bring peace.\u00a0 But not yet.\u00a0 Not yet.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of years passed before Jesus was born in Bethlehem.\u00a0 When it finally happened angels sang to shepherds.\u00a0 A star appeared in the sky.\u00a0 Wise men travelled from far away lands.\u00a0 Heaven and earth rejoiced.\u00a0 But kings were caught off guard.\u00a0 Priests had to search the scriptures for information about the birthplace of the Messiah.<\/p>\n<p>Why did those who were lowly and distant rejoice, while those with power and prestige in Jerusalem did not?\u00a0 Fulfillment of Isaiah&#8217;s prophecy marked an important turning point in history.\u00a0 A turning point so dramatic that the world bases its calendar on time before and after Jesus&#8217; birth.\u00a0 As exciting as that was, though, it\u00a0was welcome news only to those who wanted a turning point and were willing to follow.<\/p>\n<p>On our pilgrim journey we must be open to God&#8217;s leading.\u00a0 Georg Neumark expressed this in his hymn <em>If Thou But Suffer God to Guide Thee<\/em>.\u00a0 Ponder his words.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">If thou but suffer God to guide thee,<br \/>\nand hope in God through all thy ways,<br \/>\nGod will give strength, whate&#8217;er betide thee,<br \/>\nand bear thee through the evil days.<br \/>\nWho trusts in God&#8217;s unchanging love<br \/>\nbuilds on the rock that naught can move.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus&#8217; birth was not the end of prophecy.\u00a0 The joyful news\u00a0of Christmas was followed by His life, death, and resurrection, which\u00a0were also foretold.\u00a0 And even more is yet to come.\u00a0 Jesus will return.\u00a0 This path has been foretold, and we must follow it.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"If Thou But Suffer God to Guide Thee (United Methodist Hymnal #142)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9inLG2YMLv8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
