{"id":378,"date":"2019-03-27T05:00:20","date_gmt":"2019-03-27T10:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/crosslabyrinth.com\/JourneyNotes\/?p=378"},"modified":"2020-04-02T10:09:07","modified_gmt":"2020-04-02T15:09:07","slug":"sufficient-need","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/crosslabyrinth.com\/JourneyNotes\/?p=378","title":{"rendered":"Sufficient Need"},"content":{"rendered":"\t<audio id=\"wp_mep_1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.crosslabyrinth.com\/m4a\/Journey%20Notes%2022%20Sufficient%20Need%20Accomp.m4a\"     controls=\"controls\" preload=\"none\"  >\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t<\/audio>\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\njQuery(document).ready(function($) {\r\n\t$('#wp_mep_1').mediaelementplayer({\r\n\t\tm:1\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t,features: ['playpause','current','progress','duration','volume','tracks','fullscreen']\r\n\t\t,audioWidth:,audioHeight:\r\n\t});\r\n});\r\n<\/script>\r\n\n<p>Some of us take pride in being self sufficient.\u00a0 We are rugged individualists who don&#8217;t need to depend on anyone\u00a0else.\u00a0 We provide for ourselves and fend for ourselves.\u00a0 If we lack for\u00a0anything, we get it ourselves or simply make do.\u00a0 As admirable as that may sound, though, it isn&#8217;t always the best approach.\u00a0 And from a spiritual perspective, it never is.<\/p>\n<p>Jacob was a tricky young man.\u00a0 He thought he was self sufficient by using what he had, and when he saw an opportunity to get more, he took it.\u00a0 When his brother Esau was hungry, Jacob seized his chance and traded a bowl of soup for Esau&#8217;s birthright.\u00a0 When his blind father was ready to give his final blessing, Jacob disguised himself and tricked his way into receiving it.\u00a0 When his uncle Laban agreed to share the offspring from his herds, Jacob managed the herds to produce more animals for himself.\u00a0 It was a way of life for him.\u00a0 Jacob wanted to come away from every encounter as the winner, no matter what he had to do.<\/p>\n<p>When he finally decided to leave Laban and return to his own home, Jacob encountered a stranger and fought with him.\u00a0 Once again Jacob wanted to come away as the winner.\u00a0 After fighting all night Jacob was injured and could not go on, yet he clung to the stranger and demanded a blessing.\u00a0 The stranger changed Jacob&#8217;s name to Israel and blessed him.\u00a0 That blessing, more than anything else, assured Israel&#8217;s future.\u00a0 That blessing had, in fact, come from God.<\/p>\n<p>Jacob was not really self sufficient.\u00a0 He had to trick and fight his way into blessings.\u00a0 He had to take what did not belong to him.\u00a0 He had more needs than he could fill.\u00a0 Jacob&#8217;s insufficiency continued until one day when he received God&#8217;s blessing.\u00a0 On that day, Jacob finally had sufficient need.\u00a0 He needed God&#8217;s mercy.\u00a0 He needed God&#8217;s care.\u00a0 He needed God&#8217;s blessing.\u00a0 And God, whose nature it is to be merciful and caring, blessed that needy man.<\/p>\n<p>We all need God&#8217;s blessing.\u00a0 We need it every day.\u00a0 We need it every hour.\u00a0 <em>I Need Thee Every Hour<\/em> was written by Annie S.
