{"id":317,"date":"2019-03-23T05:00:34","date_gmt":"2019-03-23T10:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/crosslabyrinth.com\/JourneyNotes\/?p=317"},"modified":"2020-04-02T10:09:07","modified_gmt":"2020-04-02T15:09:07","slug":"fearfully-comforted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/crosslabyrinth.com\/JourneyNotes\/?p=317","title":{"rendered":"Fearfully Comforted"},"content":{"rendered":"\t<audio id=\"wp_mep_1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.CrossLabyrinth.com\/m4a\/Journey%20Notes%2018%20Fearfully%20Comforted%20Accomp.m4a\"     controls=\"controls\" preload=\"none\"  >\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t<\/audio>\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\njQuery(document).ready(function($) {\r\n\t$('#wp_mep_1').mediaelementplayer({\r\n\t\tm:1\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t,features: ['playpause','current','progress','duration','volume','tracks','fullscreen']\r\n\t\t,audioWidth:,audioHeight:\r\n\t});\r\n});\r\n<\/script>\r\n\n<p>The scriptures tell us that there was no rain when the earth was new.\u00a0 The plants were watered by mists that came out of the ground.\u00a0 After Noah boarded the ark, springs of water burst from the deep and the floodgates of the heavens were opened.\u00a0 What happened that day had never happened before and will never happen again.\u00a0 The force and magnitude of that event were simply beyond anything else seen or recorded by man.\u00a0 It must have been terrifying.\u00a0 And yet the deadly, raging waters carried the ark and its occupants to safety.\u00a0 By the grace of God, the fear was transformed to comfort.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of years later the son of an English shipmaster defied his father&#8217;s wishes and went to sea on a merchant vessel.\u00a0 In the years that followed he was pressed into service with the British navy, abandoned by his shipmates, and forced into slave service.\u00a0 He escaped from his captors and became deeply involved in slave trading himself.\u00a0 Later he faced death from storms and illness.\u00a0 During one especially bad storm he called out to God and was saved.\u00a0 Like those on board Noah&#8217;s ark, his fear was transformed to comfort.\u00a0 That is the story of John Newton, who is best known as the writer of the hymn <em>Amazing Grace<\/em>.\u00a0 After his conversion he would go on to become a minister of the Gospel and a leader in the movement to abolish slavery.<\/p>\n<p>Somewhat less well known, <em>Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken<\/em> was also written by John Newton.\u00a0 Think about the waters that replace fear with comfort and life as you read these words.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">See, the streams of living waters,<br \/>\nspringing from eternal love,<br \/>\nwell supply thy sons and daughters,<br \/>\nand all fear of want remove.<br \/>\nWho can faint while such a river<br \/>\never will their thirst assuage?<br \/>\nGrace which like the Lord, the giver,<br \/>\nnever fails from age to age.<\/p>\n<p>Take encouragement from these words.\u00a0 Even though the waters frightened Noah and John Newton in their times and the storms of life continue to rage about us today, the Lord gives us comfort.\u00a0 Grace never fails from age to age.\u00a0 Grace never fails from step to step.\u00a0 Grace never fails.\u00a0 Be fearfully comforted on your journey today.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken (United Methodist Hymnal #731)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/s0oywMbpo24?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
