{"id":268,"date":"2019-03-18T05:00:32","date_gmt":"2019-03-18T10:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/crosslabyrinth.com\/JourneyNotes\/?p=268"},"modified":"2020-04-02T10:09:07","modified_gmt":"2020-04-02T15:09:07","slug":"the-path-which-honors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/crosslabyrinth.com\/JourneyNotes\/?p=268","title":{"rendered":"The Path Which Honors"},"content":{"rendered":"\t<audio id=\"wp_mep_1\" src=\"http:\/\/crosslabyrinth.com\/m4a\/Journey%20Notes%2013%20The%20Path%20Which%20Honors%20Accomp.m4a\"     controls=\"controls\" preload=\"none\"  >\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\r\n\t<\/audio>\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\njQuery(document).ready(function($) {\r\n\t$('#wp_mep_1').mediaelementplayer({\r\n\t\tm:1\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t,features: ['playpause','current','progress','duration','volume','tracks','fullscreen']\r\n\t\t,audioWidth:,audioHeight:\r\n\t});\r\n});\r\n<\/script>\r\n\n<p>Abel was a simple shepherd, tending his flocks in the fields.\u00a0 He made offerings to God regularly from the first and best of his animals.\u00a0 God honored Abel&#8217;s offerings.\u00a0 Cain became angry and killed him.<\/p>\n<p>We really don&#8217;t know much more than that about Abel.\u00a0 He is never mentioned again in the Old Testament, and his name reappears only a handful of times in the New Testament.\u00a0 Even so, his example and his fate were well known to Jesus, and the righteousness of his offerings still teaches us lessons today.\u00a0 Honoring God with the first and best of your gifts is the only way to truly honor God.<\/p>\n<p><em>Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow<\/em> is a &#8220;doxology,&#8221; which means an expression of praise to God.\u00a0 The words most often sung in English speaking churches were written by Thomas Ken, a Bishop in the Church of England.\u00a0 Ken had a gift for writing verse and a passion for honoring God.\u00a0 The Doxology that we sing today was actually used as the closing verse for two other hymns that Ken wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Most hymns until Ken&#8217;s time had been sung directly from scriptures, usually the Psalms.\u00a0 When he shared his new hymns with students at Winchester College, Ken instructed them to use them only in their rooms.\u00a0 The succinct statement of praise in the Doxology could not be held in those rooms, though.\u00a0 Today it is sung in thousands of churches by millions of Christians whenever they come together, usually at the time that offerings are joyfully given, just the way that Abel did.<\/p>\n<p>Rejoice in the greatness of God as you read the words:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;<br \/>\npraise Him, all creatures here below;<br \/>\npraise Him above, ye heavenly host;<br \/>\npraise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.<\/p>\n<p>God is great!\u00a0 Remember this as you walk the path to the foot of the cross.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Praise God, From Whom All Blessings Flow (United Methodist Hymnal #95)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/i6xMTGhiuEc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Follow the Path!<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<em><strong>CARadke<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>[Use with <em>Honoring God in His Way<\/em>, day 13 of <a title=\"Order your copy of A Labyrinth Pilgrimage today!\" href=\"https:\/\/www.createspace.com\/3366946\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>A Labyrinth Pilgrimage<\/em><\/a>]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Abel was a simple shepherd, tending his flocks in the fields.\u00a0 He made offerings to God regularly from the first and best of his animals.\u00a0 God honored Abel&#8217;s offerings.\u00a0 Cain became angry and killed him.
