Adam and Eve did not turn into gods.<\/p>\n<p>In a world turned upside down, though, some things never changed at all.\u00a0The earth still turned.\u00a0 The sun still shone.\u00a0 The birds still sang.\u00a0 Man&#8217;s work was not in vain.\u00a0 The fields he planted were fruitful.\u00a0 God remained ever present.\u00a0 Most importantly, God still loved His people.<\/p>\n<p>Henry Francis Lyte was a minister in England during the early 1800s.\u00a0 His life was filled with unexpected twists and turns, too.\u00a0 His father abandoned the family when he was a young boy, and at the age of nine his mother passed away.\u00a0 Over the years he battled lung disease, finally succombing to tuberculosis at the age of 54.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the harsh turns that he experienced during his life, though, the love of God was present with him always.\u00a0 As a child he learned prayers and listened to Bible stories from his mother.\u00a0 After her death, the headmaster of Portora Royal School took him in and nurtured not only his education, but his faith.\u00a0 His final parish on the south coast of England was in a fishing town that shared fellowship with him during life and honored his ministry after his death.<\/p>\n<p>His most famous hymn, <em>Abide with Me<\/em>, has been a source of inspiration and comfort to Christians for nearly two centuries.\u00a0 An evening hymn, it plumbs the deepest thoughts of God&#8217;s abiding presence.\u00a0 Ponder the words of this verse:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Swift to its close ebbs out life&#8217;s little day;<br \/>\nearth&#8217;s joys grow dim;
